5 ways to create the right content for SEO.

It’s 2021, and the SEO industry is booming. You may not have even heard of this three-letter acronym five years ago – Search Engine Optimization.  Now it’s one of the most important aspects of digital marketing and advertising. But how do you know if you’re doing it right?

Ever heard the saying, ‘content is king?’ Marketers have. And it’s why you’ll often find that companies will throw every possible piece of information up on their website. Unfortunately, this can have the opposite of the desired effect. Here at Southern Digital Consulting, we like to say ‘unique, relevant content is king’.

In this blog, we’ll give you five tips to ensure you’re creating content for SEO that’ll drive that much wanted traffic to your website.

Provide real value to your visitors

It’s easy to think that using enough keywords, backlinks, and lengthy content is the perfect recipe for awesome SEO. But your true purpose should always be to provide helpful and unique informative content and to never duplicate content or pages. Focus on that, and watch your Google ranking soar.

Provide real value to your visitors by identifying their pain points, and understanding how your product or service can provide a solution. Continue to focus on what your customers are searching for, and what they want an answer to. Are you producing useful and informative content on what your visitors want? If not, then you have a great starting point to create some amazing and unique content.

Post original content

Many website owners want to fill all their web pages with as much content as possible. This often results in recycled content that has been shared on other pages or is too similar to their other content. Now their visitors can’t gain any value from the website at all.

Share quality, original content that is related or crucial to the page it’s on. If it doesn’t add value, delete it. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.

Prioritize links

Incoming and internal links are some of the best ways for search engines and visitors to find your content. Make sure you integrate this as one of your SEO strategies.

Backlinks – when other articles link back to your content – also help Google determine a website’s value. So strive for backlinks to your own content. Reach out to other content creators and offer to collaborate with them. They will be flattered you asked and will be more likely to backlink to your page.

Be wary and cautious of third-party freelancer websites. While there are some amazing people on those platforms, not everyone is as diligent as you are. You could hire a freelance to improve your website’s SEO, only to have them load up your site with poor, spammy backlinks. Aim for quality links that are directly related to your content. Reach out to writers and websites to request a link. You may have to pay for them, but if it is a high-quality link you won’t need many.

Think about your keywords

Before you decide on which keywords to use, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What causes a person to search for my product or service?
  • How would someone phrase a search for my product or service?
  • What are our bestselling products/services?
  • What outside factors (i.e. time, season, etc.) prompt people to think about our products?

This brainstorm should help you generate a list of broad keywords that you can build from. Just remember to keep all keywords visitor-focused – if your target audience isn’t searching it in Google, then you won’t get that traffic!

Check your website’s loading times

Fun fact: users often leave web pages within 10-20 seconds. So check your website’s loading times. Use a speed test like Google’s PageSpeed Insights to verify your site’s loading time.

If your website loading time is lagging, then it can lead to higher bounce rates. As you can guess, Google doesn’t like that – and it will show in your rankings.
